Cade Cunningham is No. 1 pick in 2021 NBA Draft


The Detroit Pistons selected Oklahoma State's Cade Cunningham with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday (Friday in Manila).

Cunningham, a 6-foot-8 point guard who averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in the US NCAA.

Filipino-American Jalen Green, who played for the Ignite team in the NBA G League, was picked second overall by the Houston Rockets.

The 6-foot-6 guard, whose mother hails from Ilocos Sur, averaged 17.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in the NBA G League.

The Cleveland Cavaliers picked 7-footer Evan Mobley of the University of Southern California at No. 3 while the Toronto Raptors picked Florida State's Scottie Barnes at No. 4.

Jalen Suggs, who hit a buzzer-beater for Gonzaga in the NCAA Final Four, went to the Orlando Magic at fifth overall.

At No. 6, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected Josh Giddey, who played for the Australian NBL team Adelaide 36ers, the same team Filipino Kai Sotto recently signed with.

The Golden State Warriors picked up Jonathan Kuminga, another G League Ignite player, with the 7th pick.

Franz Wagner went to the Orlando Magic, Davion Mitchell was picked by the Sacramento Kings and Ziaire Williams headed to the New Orleans Pelicans to round out the Top 10.
