Gilas Pilipinas holds steady in 31st place in latest FIBA World Rankings; 6th in Zone
The Philippine national men’s basketball team held its place in the latest FIBA World Ranking, slotting in at 31st overall with a total of 322.8 accumulated points, factoring in results up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Basketball tournament.
The rankings have them in 6th place in the Asia-Oceania Zone, ahead of Japan at 35th place, and only slightly behind China and South Korea, who are at 28th and 29th respectively.
The highest-ranked team in the zone is Australia at third overall, following the Boomers’ first-ever medal finish in the Olympics. Iran is at 22nd place and New Zealand at 25th.
The United States remained at the spot with 765.2 ranking points, while Spain is in second place with 722.4. Slovenia is the biggest climber among the top teams in the rankings, moving 12 places up to reach fourth place while Tokyo silver medalist France is in fifth.
Gilas’ most recent results in FIBA play include two wins over South Korea and one over Indonesia in the third window of the FIBA Asia qualifiers, and losses to Serbia and Dominican Republic in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
