JJ Redick announces retirement after 15 years in the NBA
JJ Redick is calling it a career after 15 years in the NBA.
On Tuesday, the 37-year-old guard announced his retirement in an episode of his podcast, "The Old Man and The Three."
Redick said he wanted the last season to be his final bow, but he was not sure how it was going to play out due to his injury, COVID-19 protocols, and other challenges.
"I would like to describe last season as a seven-month exercise in coming face to face with my own athletic mortality. And it was scary and confusing," he said.

He said he wanted to take the time to reflect and figure out if he wanted to keep playing and thus did not commit anything to teams which reached out to him during free agency.
"I have some clarity now and I know it's time. It's time for me to be a dad, it's time for me to reflect, pause, and it's time for me to get ready for the next phase of my life," he said.
Redick, who was selected 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA draft, played for the Dallas Mavericks in the final season of his career.
The sharpshooting guard out of Duke also had stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and New Orleans Pelicans.
"The last 30 years of basketball had been beyond my wildest dreams. I never could have imagined that I would have played basketball for this long," he said.
"It's been a true honor to be in the NBA brotherhood for the last 15 years."
