TNT drubs Magnolia to draw first blood in PBA Philippine Cup finals


TNT Tropang Giga dismantled the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok, 88-70, to draw first blood in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup finals series on Wednesday in Pampanga.

The Tropang Giga was in control for the majority of the game, with the Hotshots limited to just 27% of made field goals.

TNT had their biggest lead in the game at the 3:46 mark of the third period after a three-point shot from Mikey Williams, 73-41.

TNT waxed hot early in the game, leading by as many as 18 points, 20-2, in the  middle of the first period. The lead continued to widen in the second period to end the first half at 53-34.

Williams, the frontrunner for the best rookie award, stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, ten rebounds, and five assists. Poy Erram helped lift the load for TNT with 14 markers and seven boards, while Kelly Williams added ten points and six rebounds.

Jackson Corpuz and Calvin Abueva both had 11 rebounds and combined for 23 points. Paul Lee chipped in 12 points in the losing effort.

After the game, Kelly Williams was brought out of the venue on a stretcher due to back spasms.

Game 2 of the finals will be played on Friday.
