13 teams to see action in inaugural PBA 3x3 tilt

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is set to unfurl its inaugural 3x3 tournament later this month with 13 teams tipped to see action in the standalone three-a-side competition.

According to league chairman Willie Marcial, the 3x3 games will open just days ahead of the 2021 Governors' Cup, which is penciled to take place within the third or fourth week of November.

Marcial added that 3x3 games will be staged in the same venue as the 5-on-5 but he has yet to name possible venues as the members of the board of governors are set to tackle the matter in a meeting later today.

In a list released by PBA 3x3 chairman Dicky Bachmann of Alaska, 13 clubs will participate in the tournament.

Northport Batang Pier, Purefoods TJ Giants, TNT Tropang Giga, Cavitex, SMB, Meralco Bolts, Terrafirma Dyip, Limitless App, Sista Super Sealers, and the Barangay Ginebra Kings will carry the colors of their 5-on-5 counterparts. Completing the team lineup are guest teams Platinum Karaoke, Pioneer Pro Tibay, and Zamboanga Valientes.

Bachmann added that each 3x3 season will be composed of three conferences with each conference featuring six two-day legs and a grand final.
