PBA seeks approval from LGUs, MMDA for team scrimmages ahead of Govs' Cup return

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has set in motion its attempt to allow all 12 clubs to start with team scrimmages ahead of the 2021 Governors' Cup return, tentatively set in the first week of February.

In an update on the league's website, league commissioner Willie Marcial bared that they are now in talks with Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos who will help them be endorsed to the mayors of six cities.

The 12 teams are holding practices in Quezon City, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Paranaque, San Juan, and Pasay.

Part of the endorsement letter are protocols before, during, and after the scrimmages; testing on all individuals involved; and the endorsement from the Games and Amusement Board.

"I will write to the six mayors and to MMDA chairman Abalos but as of now, only scrimmages will be allowed," said Marcial.

Should the league secure approval from LGUs, Marcial said teams can kick off with their scrimmages.

The league added that they are looking at either Araneta Coliseum or the Ynares Center in Pasig or Antipolo City as the venue for the stalled import-laced conference. — LA, GMA News
