Free agent Robert Bolick joins Gilas pool for February qualifiers

The short-handed Gilas Pilipinas national team just received a timely boost as Robert Bolick is set to join the pool for the February window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

SBP president Al Panlilio confirmed the news on Saturday, backing an Instagram story posted by Gilas head coach Chot Reyes earlier where Bolick was seen training with other national team members at the Moro Lorenzo Gym.

Bolick is currently on the free agency market as he has yet to re-sign with the NorthPort Batang Pier amid the ongoing Governors' Cup.

The former San Beda standout last appeared for the nationals during the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China where he posted averages of 8.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1 assist in five games played.

Back then, Bolick suited up alongside veterans Paul Lee, Gabe Norwood, Mark Barroca, June Mar Fajardo, and Japeth Aguilar. This time, though, he will be among the seasoned players as Gilas will make do with a mix of young guns and TNT players.

Already in the pool are Thirdy Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Ange Kouame, Tzaddy Rangel, William Navarro, Jaydee Tungcab, and Juan Gomez de Liaño.

The Philippines will open its campaign against South Korea on February 24 before facing India and New Zealand on February 25 and 27, respectively.

Gilas Pilipinas will then close out the window against Korea anew on the 28th.
