UAAP set to open Season 84 on March 26

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is set to open its 84th season on March 26.

This was confirmed by UAAP Season 84 president Emmanuel Calanog, who is also the Office of Sports Development director of season host De La Salle University.

Men's basketball, women's volleyball, and cheerdance will headline the events for Season 84, alongside men's and women's 3x3 basketball, men's beach volleyball, poomsae, and men's and women's chess.

"The idea of the season is trying to get it back to the new normal," Calanog said. "Try to see what we can bring back for Season 84 and hopefully bring back the grind by Season 85."

Season 85 will be hosted by Adamson University and Calanog said they hope to open the next season by October, which is the league's usual opening period.

For basketball, there will be three game days (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday), with each playing day having four games each. The league will still follow the usual tournament format: double round robin, then Final Four semis, and a best-of-three finals.

The teams will be in a bubble and UAAP executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag said they will maintain it despite easing restrictions from the government. However, they will be open to adjustments eventually. The UAAP added they are still talking to their usual venue partners such as the Mall of Asia Arena, Smart Araneta Coliseum, and the FilOil Flying V Arena for the conduct of the games.

Other sports will be held after the basketball season.
