Thirdy Ravena's San-En notches back-to-back wins; Ramos, Paras absorb big losses
Thirdy Ravena and his San-En Neophoenix squad eked out a win against the Shinshu Brave Warriors of fellow Filipino Matthew Aquino, 72-69, on Wednesday in the Japan B.League.
Two free throws by Morihisa Yamauchi sealed the deal for San-En, despite Josh Hawkinson's shot as the game expired. Thirdy tallied 14 points and seven rebounds while his teammate Robert Carter made 18 points and seven rebounds as well.
Aquino, meanwhile, was limited to only three minutes of action.
The win was San-En's second straight after defeating the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, 85-82, last Wednesday. This improved their record to 7-30, while Shinsu slid to 19-20.
In other games, Ray Parks was limited to three points in the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins' 100-93 win over the Hiroshima Dragonflies. Javi Gomez de Liaño's Ibaraki Robots also won over the Sun Rockers Shibuya, 95-91. The Filipino import scored three points.
Meanwhile, the teams of Kobe Paras and Dwight Ramos absorbed big losses in Wednesday's games.
Paras and the Niigata Albirex BB lost to the Kawasaki Brave Thunders, 92-62, to remain at the bottom of the standings with a 5-33 card. Paras registered 11 points and two rebounds in the loss.
Ramos and his Toyama Grouses, meanwhile, were beaten by Kyoto Hannaryz, 88-66. Ramos had seven points and rebounds in Toyama's 24th loss in 40 games this season.
Kiefer Ravena's double-double output of 10 points and 10 assists was spoiled as the Shiga Lakestars fell to Shimane Susanoo Magic, 82-74. The Lakestars went down 10-24 in the standings.
All the said teams will see action again on Saturday.
