Concepcion tallies career-high 25 points as UST beats UE; La Salle, Ateneo go for 3-0
Sherwin Concepcion dropped a career-high 25 points in the UST Growling Tigers' 74-62 win over the UE Red Warriors on Thursday in the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Concepcion drilled six-of-nine triples and led the Tigers in its late rally to notch their first win of the season. The España-based squad also limited the Red Warriors to just nine points in the fourth period against their 24-point rampage in the said frame.
Meanwhile, the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles and the De La Salle Green Archers maintained their spotless records on the third day of UAAP action.
The defending champs demolished the Adamson University Soaring Falcons in the day's opener, 78-47, with Ange Kouame making 13 points. No Falcon scored in double digits as Keith Zaldivar and Lenda Douanga topped the San Marcelino-based squad with six points each.
DLSU took down the FEU Tamaraws, 75-65. Former Gilas Pilipinas player and La Salle veteran Justine Baltazar registered a double-double performance of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Mark Nonoy waxed hot from beyond the arc, making 5-of-8 triples to list 17 points.
The UP Fighting Maroons, meanwhile, dispatched the NU Bulldogs, 80-70. Ricci Rivero led the Diliman-based squad in scoring with 19 points, while Carl Tamayo added 13.
Ateneo and La Salle share the top spot before they battle it out on Saturday, while UP is at 2-1. UST, FEU, NU, and Adamson are all tied at 1-2, while UE remains the only school without a win for the season.
UAAP action will be back on Saturday.
