Barangay Ginebra takes Game 4 to equalize PBA Governors' Cup series against Meralco

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel defeated the Meralco Bolts, 95-84, in Game 4 of the PBA Governors' Cup Finals on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After a tied ball game at 41 at the end of the first half, Ginebra limited Meralco to just 13 points against their 27-point output to take the 68-54 advantage at the end of the third period.

Ginebra led by as much as 20, 80-60, early in the fourth period, before the Bolts cut the lead to just seven before the 2-minute mark.

A triple from Scottie Thompson and a shot from LA Tenorio extended their lead anew to double digits, before triples from Allein Maliksi and Chris Newsome again cut their deficit to nine despite Tenorio's triple in between.

Splits from Jeff Chan and Christian Standhardinger sealed the Ginebra win.

Justin Brownlee and Thompson, who were recognized prior to the game as Best Import and Best Player of the Conference, respectively, both scored 27 points, with Brownlee adding 18 rebounds and seven assists.

Tenorio listed 17 markers while Standhardinger made 11 to round up the list of double-digit scorers for Ginebra.

Tony Bishop tallied 25 points, while Newsome had 15 points in the Meralco loss.

With the win, the best-of-seven series is now tied 2-2. The series will take a break for the Holy Week and will return on Easter Sunday.

Meralco 84 – Bishop 25, Newsome 15, Black 14, Almazan 11, Quinto 6, Hodge 5, Hugnatan 3, Bacnhero 2, Baclao 0, Caram 0.

Quarters: 24-21, 41-41, 68-54, 95-84.
