UP takes down Ateneo, sets up duel with DLSU in Final Four; Ateneo to face FEU

The University of the Philippines took down Ateneo de Manila University, 84-83, to snap the Blue Eagles' 39-game winning streak in the last day of the elimination round in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The UP win denied Ateneo a sweep and set up a Final Four format in the UAAP Season 84 postseason.

Malick Diouf propelled the Diliman-based squad to the victory with an 18-point, 16-board performance, while Carl Tamayo added 16 points in the victory.

UP will face no. 3 De La Salle University in the Final Four, while top seeded Ateneo will go against Far Eastern University.

Ateneo and UP both have twice to beat incentives heading into the Final Four.

Earlier, the FEU Tamaraws booked its Final Four slot after its annihilation of University of Santo Tomas, 109-65, and with National University losing to La Salle, 76-65.

Adamson University won over University of the East, 65-53.

Ateneo ended the elimination round with a 13-1 card, while UP improved to 12-2. La Salle registered a 9-5 card while FEU had seven wins and losses.

Aside from the basketball postseason, UAAP women's volleyball is also scheduled to commence this week.
