Converge completes comeback for first franchise win, silences Magnolia in OT


The Converge FiberXers got its first franchise victory as they completed an overtime comeback against the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots, 89-82, in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

RK Ilagan drilled the game-tying triple with three ticks left in regulation to push the game into overtime, 82-82. The Hotshots were then silenced in the extra period as no baskets went in for the team.

The Hotshots were up 41-21 midway through the second period before they ended the first half with a 47-35 advantage.

The FiberXers climbed their way in the second half to reclaim the lead as they limited the Hotshots to less than 20 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Jeron Teng tallied a team-high 19 markers, while Ilagan tallied 14 points from four triples. Maverick Ahanmisi also listed 14 points, while Ben Adamos had 10. Justin Arana flirted with a double-double with 12 rebounds and nine points.

Meanwhile, Ian Sangalang's game-high 22 points and Calvin Abueva's 13-13 stat line went for naught in the Magnolia loss.

Converge will be against defending champions TNT Tropang Giga on Sunday in Antipolo, while Magnolia will face the NorthPort Batang Pier on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
