NorthPort arrests six-game skid at expense of Phoenix
The NorthPort Batang Pier snapped their six-game losing skid at the expense of Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters, 95-92, on Thursday in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
NorthPort had the lead, 94-90, with 1:18 left in the fourth period before a foul by Roi Sumang put Javee Mocon on the line to sink two free throws for Phoenix and cut the lead to just two points with less than a minute remaining.
Robert Bolick's split from a Sean Anthony foul sealed the win for NorthPort as Jason Perkin's attempt from beyond the arc during the dying moments of the game did not connect.
Sumang and Kevin Ferrer tallied 18 markers each in the NorthPort win, while Bolick had 17 points. Jamie Malonzo and Arwind Santos chipped in 16 and 13 points each.
NorthPort spoiled Matthew Wright's hot-shooting night as he drilled six triples for a 20-point performance. Anthony had 17, while Tyler Tio tallied 15 points for the Fuelmasters.
With the win, the Batang Pier (3-6) kept their playoff hopes alive as they will take on Barangay Ginebra on Sunday and NLEX next Friday. Phoenix (2-7) will have Converge on Saturday and Barangay Ginebra on Thursday in their last two games for the elimination round. – RC, GMA News
