UCBL forced to call off UP-JRU game via forfeit after scuffle

The game between University of the Philippines and Jose Rizal University in the PG Flex Linoleum-UCBL Preseason Tournament on Tuesday was marred by incidents of physicality and a scuffle that saw elbows and a punch thrown between two players.

With 2:11 left to play in the third quarter, JRU's John Amores and UP's Mark Belmonte were caught fighting for position, which was followed by both cagers falling to the floor.

Belmonte then threw an elbow to Amores before the Bomber retaliated and launched a punch of his own onto the Maroon's chest. The game officials were quick to put a stop to the melee and prevented more players from being involved.

Prior to the incident, Amores and Belmonte were already being physical against each other.

The league has yet to make a statement regarding the incident but has decided to halt the game with UP winning via forfeiture.
