Mikey Williams' offense too much for Converge as TNT advances to semis

Mikey Williams was firing on all cylinders as he steered twice-to-beat TNT to a 116-95 romp over Converge en route to securing a semifinals slot in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Williams led the charge for TNT, finishing with 26 points, highlighted by four triples, to go alongside four assists, and a rebound as TNT eliminated Converge from contention.

The former fourth overall draft wasted no time asserting his dominance, draining 24 of his total output  in the first two quarters. He shot 7-of-9 from the field as the Tropang Giga led the FiberXers by a comfortable margin at halftime.

TNT poured in 40 points in the second quarter against Converge's 22 to hold a huge 28-point margin, 70-42, at the break.

That deficit was just too hard to recover from for the FiberXers as the defending champions still enjoyed a 30-point lead after the penultimate quarter on the way to the lopsided victory.

Williams, who yesterday signed a three-year extension with TNT, got plenty of help from his teammates with Troy Rosario dropping 18 points, seven rebounds, and a steal while RR Pogoy chipped in 16 markers.

Veteran Jayson Castro also made his presence felt, chiming in with 15 points off the bench.

TNT will next face the winner of the best-of-three quarterfinals showdown between Magnolia and NLEX with the Hotshots holding a 1-0 series lead.
