UP stays undefeated, downs UE for third win
University of the Philippines extended its immaculate run in the 2022 FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup after frustrating fellow UAAP team University of the East, 86-63, on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Fighting Maroons got another solid outing from big man Carl Tamayo who starred with 20 points, four rebounds, and two assists as UP grabbed solo first spot in Group A with a 3-0 card.
UE, on the other hand, slipped to 0-2.
Malick Diouf was also instrumental in the victory with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a block while Bismarck Lina chipped in 12 markers.
UP previously routed NCAA squads University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and Season 97 runner-up Mapua University.
Abdul Sawat led the Red Warriors after he registered 14 points and three rebounds while Calvin Payawal chimed in with 10.
UP will go for fourth win when it takes on well-rested College of Saint Benilde on Wednesday while UE will next face National University on Sunday.
