Chot Reyes congratulates SMB, apologizes to TNT for missing Game 7

It was not the best time to miss a game, but TNT head coach was forced to sit out of Game 7 of his team's 2022 PBA Philippine Cup Finals series against the San Miguel Beermen due to health and safety protocols.

The Tropang Giga fell to the Beermen, 119-97, to finish as runners-up in the All-Filipino tourney.

In a post, Reyes congratulated the Beermen for the championship.

"Congrats to Coach Leo Austria & the San Miguel Beermen for the championship," he wrote.

He also apologized to his team for missing the deciding game of the tournament, but said he was proud of their gallant stand.

"So immensely proud of our guys led by @jaywill_17 for their courage in battling overwhelming odds. Sorry I couldn’t be on the floor with you for that last one."

But even with Reyes was out for TNT, SMB head coach Leo Austria said he remained wary of what surprises the Tropang Giga might throw at them in their coach's absence.

"Hindi namin pinansin dahil alam naman natin ang TNT, with or without Coach Chot, with their experience in the team, almost the same team sila. Alam natin ang system nila, almost in place na 'yun eh," he said in a post-game conference.

"Sometimes nga, medyo kinabahan pa ako eh because we don't know what they can give us."

Eventually, Austria and the Beermen had the last laugh as they reigned supreme again in the PBA Philippine Cup.
