Gilas Pilipinas Girls escape Thailand to jumpstart FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship bid

Gilas Pilipinas Girls opened their campaign in the FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championships Division B with a 65-50 victory over Thailand on Monday night in India.

Kate Bobadilla led the Filipinas with 22 points, two rebounds, and one assist as they eye promotion to Division A.

17-year-old Kristan Yumul chipped in 10 markers in the victory alongside four rebounds while 5-foot-8 guard Sumayah Sugapong chimed in with nine points and eight boards.

Louna Ozar and Camille Nolasco helped the national squad with eight points apiece with the 18-year-old Ozar collecting 11 of the country's 55 total rebounds.

The Patrick Aquino-mentored team will next face Samoa later today and Maldives on Wednesday.

Only the champion in Division B will be promoted to Division A.
