Gilas Girls wallop Maldives by 82 for outright semis berth in FIBA Asia U18
Gilas Pilipinas Girls continued their surge in the 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship Division B after a 110-28 drubbing of Maldives on Wednesday at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in India.
With the lopsided victory, the Philippines will finish atop Group A with a perfect 3-0 card and book an outright semifinals berth while Maldives dropped to a winless 0-3 slate.
The youthful Filipinas quickly got down to business, limiting Maldives to six points in the opening frame and seven in the second period to hold a sizable 54-13 halftime lead with bench players Liane Loon and Ryhanna Calvert showing the way.
The 5-foot-8 Loon unleashed 11 points in their first half rampage while 16-year-old Cavert poured 10 of her overall output as the Filipinas took advantage of Maldives' 28 first half turnovers.
The girls of decorated mentor Patrick Aquino then uncorked 33 points in the third while holding Maldives to just nine to end the penultimate frame up by 65, 87-22, and basically put the game to bed.
Louna Ozar picked up where she left off, leading the country with 22 points while Calvert and Kate Bobadilla each chipped in 17 markers in the dominant win.
Loon had a near triple-double of 14 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists while Kalynee Abraham collected 11 markers and 11 boards.
