Fortea posts career-high as UP escapes FEU; Adamson notches first win at expense of UE
Terrence Fortea posted a career-high in the University of the Philippines' win against Far Eastern University, 73-67, in UAAP Season 85 on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fortea, who is seeing more minutes in the absence of JD Cagulangan, waxed hot from beyond the arc and drilled all five triples to anchor his 17-point output in the Fighting Maroons' third win in their title defense campaign. Star sophomore Carl Tamayo also took over in the fourth period and scored eight of his 16 points in the said frame, outscoring FEU, which tallied only 7 points.
The Tamaraws were limited to just 25 points in the second half after exploding for 32 in the second quarter alone which gave the Morayta-based squad a 42-41 advantage at the end of the first half.
Ace Sandagon led FEU with 20 points while LJ Gonzales added 11 points in the losing effort.
Earlier, Adamson University barged into the win column after a 74-61 win over the University of the East. Joem Sabandal scored 16 while Jerom Lastimosa made 11 points.
On Sunday, National University will take on the University of Santo Tomas while rivals Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle University will go head-to-head for the main match at 4:30 p.m.
