NU sweeps La Salle in UAAP Season 85 Finals for seventh straight women's basketball title
National University swept De La Salle University in the UAAP Season 85 Finals to clinch its seventh straight women's basketball title.
The Lady Bulldogs dominated the Lady Archers, 76-64, in Game 2 of the Finals on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
NU's seventh straight title tied University of the East's record in most consecutive championships from Seasons 28 to 34. UE and University of Santo Tomas were co-champions in Season 30.
Rookie Tin Cayabyab, who was hailed as Finals MVP, tallied 18 points. In the series, Cayabyab averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 assists.
Meanwhile, Ameng Torres poured in 29 points, while Fina Tchuido had 13 points in La Salle's runner-up finish.
Earlier, Eka Soriano of UST was named the tournament MVP. Joining her in the Mythical Five were Rookie of the Year Kacey dela Rosa (Ateneo), Jhazmin Joson (Ateneo), Tacky Tacatac (UST), and Victoria Adeshina (Adamson).
