Rhenz Abando's Anyang KGC claims EASL Champions Week title

Rhenz Abando is a champion once again as his Anyang KGC ruled the East Asia Super League (EASL) Champions Week with a 90-84 victory against Seoul SK Knights in their All-Korean clash on Sunday at the Okinawa Arena in Japan.

Abando chipped in 11 points, two rebounds, and two assists in the win as the former rookie MVP for the Letran Knights copped his first professional basketball title since joining Anyang in July 2022.

American import Darryl Monroe led the way for Anyang with 21 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists while Omari Spellman chimed in with 19 markers, 11 boards, and two dimes as Anyang pocketed a total of $250,000 while Seoul took home $100,000.

As Abando's team triumphed, though, two Philippine squads bowed out early of the tourney.

Reigning PBA Philippine Cup champion San Miguel and TNT both had short stints as the Beermen fell to Anyang with a lopsided 142-87 defeat to end its group stage campaign. The Tropang Giga, on the other hand, absorbed an 80-69 loss to defending KBL champion Seoul SK last Friday night.

Both SMB and TNT finished last in their respective groups.
