Scottie Thompson thankful for wife's support as accolades come aplenty

Scottie Thompson has been on a roll lately in his career.

Aside from being the PBA Most Valuable Player, Thompson was also the Best Player of the Conference in the league's Commissioner's Cup and was voted by fans as the 2022 FIBA Asia Player of the Year. 

His jersey number 6 was also retired recently by his college University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.

In the Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards on Monday, Thompson also received the Mr. Basketball award.

But for Thompson, he just wants to stay healthy throughout his career.

"Sana magtuloy-tuloy lang, talagang sobrang blessed lang na sunod-sunod 'yung awards na dumadating and achievements sa buhay ko pero alam natin na sobrang early pa sa career ko so hopefully mag-stay best ako and prayer ko lang ay maging healthy lang throughout my career," Thompson told reporters.

("I hope this continues. I am very blessed with the continuous awards and achievements but we all know it is early in my career so hopefully, I'll stay at my best and I pray to be healthy throughout my career.")

With the multiple accolades Thompson has been receiving, he is thankful that his wife Jinky, who is pregnant, is always behind him.

"Ito na ang pinaka-start ng challenge yata sa buhay ko, magiging father na ako," Thompson said in jest. "Thankful din ako sa wife ko na talagang support niya sa 'kin all out and hinahayaan niya akong lumipad sa career ko."

("This might be the start of the challenge in my life, being a father. I am thankful for my wife because she has all-out support for me and she lets me fly in my career.")

"Without her siguro wala rin ako sa sitwasyon na to. Motivated din ako kay baby."

("Without her, I might not be in my situation now. I am also motivated by the baby we are expecting.")

Truly, Thompson is one blessed athlete.

"Wala akong masabi, sobrang thankful lang ako kay God, sobrang blessed."

("I have no words, I'm just thankful to God. I am very blessed.")
