Former collegiate stars Ravena, Abando, Kouame to take top plums in Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night

Three former collegiate stars — Thirdy Ravena, Rhenz Abando, and Ange Kouame — will take center stage when the Collegiate Press Corps holds its awards night on Monday, May 29 at The Hummingbird Rooftop Bar in Quezon City.

The troika will receive the Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year awards, which will highlight the ceremony that is backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and presented by San Miguel Corporation.

Ravena will be given the top honors for the 2019-20 athletic year as he steered Ateneo de Manila University to a perfect 16-0 run in UAAP Season 82, where he was named the Finals MVP after instigating the Blue Eagles' sweep of UST in the finals. In the finals series, the second generation baller averaged 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in two games.

Abando, meanwhile, earned the coveted award for the 2021-2022 season as he etched his name in history by bagging both the MVP and Rookie of the Year awards in NCAA Season 97. In his first and only year for Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the high-flying cager averaged 15.73 points, 6.36 rebounds, 1.73 assists, and 1.27 blocks to guide the Knights to back-to-back titles.

Kouame rounds out the awardees as the naturalized Filipino center helped Ateneo reclaim the UAAP crown from University of the Philippines during their Season 85 finals clash. Kouame posted 17.7 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game in the three-game series.

Also to be honored in the ceremony supported by MNL Kingpin, Tinapayan Festival, and Jockey are the Collegiate Volleyball Players of the Year, the basketball Mythical 5 for the past three collegiate seasons, and the Coaches of the Year.

The Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night is also supported by Robinsons Supermarket, Robinsons Appliances, and Handyman.
