Fil-Ams John Abate, Jason Suba join UST

University of Santo Tomas has secured the commitment of two Filipino-Americans John Abate and Jason Suba as the Growling Tigers continue to beef up their roster for UAAP.

6-foot-1 guard Abate is transferring from Spring Hill College, where he averaged 6.5 points on 39-percent shooting from deep, to go with 2.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in the 2021-22 season for the Badgers.

He will have two more years of eligibility for the Growling Tigers.

Suba, meanwhile, will have four more years to play as he transfers from Kean University. Suba, who stands 6-foot-2, played for Team USA in the 2023 National Finals where he posted 11.0 points and 3.7 rebounds.

Both Abate and Suba will undergo a one-year residency and will be available come Season 87.

"Nadadagdagan yung mga materyales natin dito sa UST, so importante para sa amin na mas mailabas pa yung galing nila para rin makatulong sila sa atin," said UST head coach Pido Jarencio.
