TNT spoils Cavitex's three-peat bid, rules PBA 3x3 Leg 6
Powerhouse 3x3 club TNT dashed Cavitex's hopes of a three-peat as the Triple Giga pulled off a 21-17 victory against the Braves in the Leg 6 finals of the PBA 3x3 Season 3 First Conference on Tuesday at the Ayala Malls Trinoma.
The win allowed TNT to capture its second leg title and third podium finish in the current conference.
The Triple Giga, a former grand slam winner in the PBA 3x3, initially could not solve the Cavitex puzzle as they fell to the Braves, 19-17, in their preliminary round meeting on Monday.
Cavitex eventually topped Pool A after also defeating Blackwater while TNT wound up second with a 1-1 card.
In the playoff stage, TNT made easy work of Barangay Ginebra, 21-13, before eking out a similar 21-13 win against Wilcon Depot 3x3 in the semifinals to arrange a rematch against Cavitex.
Cavitex, meanwhile, eliminated Purefoods and Meralco en route to the finals.
But it was TNT who prevailed this time around as Gryann Mendoza led the way with seven points while Almond Vosotros and Samboy De Leon each chipped in six markers.
Wilcon copped the bronze medal after taking down the Bolts in the battle for third, 16-13, as Keith Datu poured in eight as the debuting team collected its first-ever podium finish.
