Anthony Edwards on possibly beating Kevin Durant’s USA scoring record in FIBA World Cup: 'Imma try'

Ant-man has arrived in Manila.

USA's Anthony Edwards was able to show off his scoring ability in a 48-point rout, 110-62, over Jordan.

After scoring 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the first two games, the NBA All-Star switched into high gear, racking up 22 points to lead Team USA, routinely attacking the Jordan defense right from the jump.

It looked like the version of Edwards that everybody had been anticipating following an impressive run in the pre-tournament games.

At the halftime break, he even looked like he was on his way to breaking a scoring record, pacing his team with 18 points. The single-game record for Team USA is 38 points held by Kevin Durant, set in the 2010 edition of the tournament where he led his US team to an 89-74 win over Lithuania.

“Imma try,” Edwards confidently answered when asked which among the current players can break the record.

“On beating KD record? I mean he’s probably one of the greatest players so it’s gonna be tough,” he acknowledged.

Edwards might have been able to challenge the record in this game, but the blowout didn't permit it as he only played six and a half minutes in the second half, adding only four points to his total.

But with three World Cup games in the bag, he's beginning to hit his stride and it might only be a matter of time before he comes up with more prolific scoring games.

With his confidence quickly growing, the pressure of performing at this stage has begun to diminish.

“I love the game of basketball. It’s fun for me man. I do what I love. I put in the work everyday so there’s no pressure at all.” He coolly responded.

As the road gets tougher in the next round of the competition, fans are keen to see if “Ant” can keep this up.

Team USA plays again on Friday, September 1.
