Filipinas hurdle Hong Kong in Asian Games opener on late goals

The Philippine women’s national football team got off on the right foot after hurdling Hong Kong in a 3-1 win on Friday night to kick off its 19th Asian Games campaign in Hangzhou, China.

Bannered by its FIFA Women's World Cup core, the Filipinas improved to 1-0 in Group E while Hong Kong slid to 0-1.

Sarina Bolden delivered the breakthrough goal at the ninth minute mark on a penalty kick before Wai Ki Cheung converted the equalizer for Hong Kong at the 39th minute, keeping the score close for much of the game.

But Quinley Quezada made it a 2-1 lead at the 89th minute with a crucial late goal before Katrina Guillou immediately sent the Filipinas to a 3-1 cushion in extra time.

The Philippines will next face South Korea on Monday.
