Eumir Marcial qualifies for Paris Olympics, Asian Games finals with KO of Syrian foe

Filipino Olympian and boxer Eumir Marcial has booked a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics following a knockout of Syrian opponent Ahmad Ghousoon in the semifinals of the men's 80kg division of the 19th Asian Games on Wednesday in Hangzhou, China.

While Marcial had the cards in the first round, the Olympic bronze medalist knocked out Ghousoon at the 1:49 mark of the second round en route to the semis win.

Prior to this, Marcial defeated Weerapon Jongjoho of Thailand in the quarterfinals.

Finishing in the top two of the division, Marcial will not only be assured of at least a silver medal, but he will also represent the Philippines in the Olympics for the second straight edition of the global sportsfest. He will join EJ Obiena, Carlos Yulo, and Aleah Finnegan in the country's delegation to Paris.

Marcial will face China's Tanglatihan Tuohetaerbieke in the Asian Games finals on Thursday.
