Former Gilas Pilipinas players celebrate Asian Games gold

Gilas Pilipinas Asian Games gold

Former Gilas Pilipinas members took to social media their celebration as the national team ended its 61-year gold medal drought in the Asian Games.

Gilas took down Jordan in the men's basketball finals, 70-60, to bring home the gold medal. This is the Philippines' first gold medal in Asiad basketball since 1962.

Chris Tiu, member of the first iteration of the Gilas program, was amazed with the feat.

"Excellent defensive strategy and execution. Congratulations Pilipinas!! Finally, after 60+ years!" Tiu wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Gabe Norwood and Ranidel de Ocampo, members of the Gilas squad which played in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, also congratulated the national team.

This is also the Philippines' fourth gold medal in this year's Asiad, following pole vault's EJ Obiena and jiu-jitsu's Meggie Ochoa and Annie Ramirez.
