Charles Tiu-coached Strong Group to represent Philippines in Jones Cup

Charles Tiu will be at the helm anew when Strong Group Athletics (SGA) banners the Philippines in the 43rd William Jones Cup slated from July 13 to 21 in Taipei, Taiwan.

SGA said it has received the blessing from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to represent the country in the prestigious international tournament, where the Philippines currently ranks second in the gold medal count behind USA.

"Strong Group Athletics has been contributing to Philippine sports by supporting athletes and national sports associations (NSAs) such as the SBP," said SBP executive director Erika Dy.

SGA recently captured a silver medal in the Dubai International Basketball Championship, where Tiu called the shots for the squad that featured the likes of Dwight Howard, Andray Blatche, Kevin Quiambao, and Justine Baltazar.

Helping Tiu in plotting their game plan is Rajko Toroman, who also serves as his assistant coach at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in the NCAA.

"We will form a team that will be ready to win it all and that Filipinos will be proud of," Tiu added.

"I am hoping to bring back the Jones Cup championship to the Philippines after some time. It would be a moment of immense pride for our nation, and we're committed to working tirelessly to make this dream a reality."

SGA has yet to reveal the roster pending the signing of the players.
