Zamboanga Valientes book Asian Tournament Leg 2 semis slot
The Zamboanga Valientes booked a slot in the semifinals of The Asian Tournament Leg 2 on Friday after beating the Guangdong leg champions Macau Black Bears, 90-82, at the Passi Arena in Iloilo.
With the win, the Valientes got the no. 2 spot with two wins and a loss behind the 3-0 Taipei Mustangs.
Frankie Johnson had 24 points, three steals, and two assists for Zamboanga, while Malick Diouf added 12 points and seven boards. Nick Evans, meanwhile, registered a double-double of 11 points and 13 boards.
“We are very happy that we got the win tonight because this is a knockout game, a do-or-die game. Whoever wins advances to the semis. We are very happy to be entering the semis," head coach Bobedick delos Santos said.
The win spoiled Tyrone Nesby's 38-point outing for Macau which went down to 1-2.
The Philippine-based squad will face the top-ranked team of Pool A in the semis on Sunday night.
