Blackwater signs rookies Sedrick Barefield, Miggy Corteza, DJ Mitchell ahead of PBA Season 49

Blackwater continued to prepare for its future by signing three promising rookies ahead of the start of PBA Season 49 next month.

Blackwater team owner Dioceldo Sy confirmed that Filipino-American guard Sedrick Barefield is now in the country and was given a two-year deal while other draftees in Miggy Corteza and DJ Mitchell were signed to separate one-year contracts.

The Bossing selected Barefield as the second overall pick during the Rookie Draft while Corteza was acquired through a trade with Rain or Shine. Mitchell, another Filipino-American, was Blackwater's third round pick.

The troika is tipped to fill in the huge void left by the departure of seasoned guard Rey Nambatac, who was shipped to TNT in exchange for Kib Montalbo, Jewel Ponferrada, and a future second round pick.

They will join a mix of youngsters and veterans in the rotation led by Troy Rosario, James Yap, Tyrus Hill, James Kwekuteye, Rey Suerte, and RK Ilagan with former NBA player Ricky Ledo serving as their reinforcement for the import-laden Governors' Cup.
