NUNS dethrones Adamson, set to face UST in UAAP Juniors Basketball finals
The National University Nazareth School dethroned Adamson University, 64-62, in the UAAP Season 87 Juniors Basketball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The twice-to-beat Bullpups defeated the Baby Falcons in the Final Four, after bucking a slow start.
Migs Palanca led NUNS with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Collins Akowe and Joush Natinga had 11 points apiece for the National U boys.
Mark Esperanza, meanwhile, led the Baby Falcons with 24 points in the losing effort.
NUNS will face the University of Santo Tomas who dispatched Far Eastern University, 75-63.
The Tiger Cubs will be returning to the finals after 15 years with their last appearance in 2010 in UAAP Season 73.
Joaquin Ludovice had 16 points while Koji Buenaflor and Charles Bucsit had 15 points each for the España-based squad. Racine Kane posted his own double-double of 11 points and 15 boards.
Marc Burgos had 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Cabs Cabonilas had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Baby Tamaraws.
NUNS and UST, both their men's and women's teams, will play in the best-of-three finals starting Thursday.
