Gilas Pilipinas grouped with New Zealand, Chinese Taipei in FIBA Asia Cup
Gilas Pilipinas will be taking on familiar foes when the nationals begin their campaign at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in August in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Filipinos are bunched with New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, and Iraq in Group D in the tournament slated from August 5 to 17.
The Philippines have a long history with both New Zealand and Chinese Taipei with their most recent encounters held in the last Asia Cup qualifiers.
Incidentally, Gilas lost its last games against both the Tall Blacks and the Taiwanese. They absorbed a 91-84 loss to Chinese Taipei last February 20, their first loss to Chinese Taipei since 2016.
They then suffered an 87-70 defeat against New Zealand as the Tall Blacks avenged their 93-89 loss to the Philippines back in the second window at the Mall of Asia Arena.
In Group A, Qatar, Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon will be pitted against each other while forming Group B are Guam, Japan, Syria, and Iran. Group C features China, Jordan, India, and host Saudi Arabia.
