2025 FIBA Asia Cup: Gilas Pilipinas vs New Zealand – Photo Gallery

Gilas Pilipinas fell short in its comeback attempt against New Zealand, 94-86, in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup on Thursday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

New Zealand led by as much as 18, 55-37, before back-to-back baskets from June Mar Fajardo and Kevin Quiambao closed the first half. The Philippines, however, outscored the Tall Blacks in the third period, 27-19, before Gilas inched closer to within three, 85-82, with less than four minutes in the fourth period. 

However, New Zealand made a late rally to eventually clinch the victory.

Justin Brownlee led Gilas with 37 points, while Jordan Ngatai led the Tall Blacks with 22 points.

The Philippines needs to win its game against Iraq on Saturday to move on to the playoff for a quarterfinals spot.
