Tenorio on Gilas Pilipinas Youth missing the FIBA U16 Asia Cup QF: ‘This loss doesn’t define us’
Gilas Pilipinas Youth head coach LA Tenorio shared his thoughts on social media after the young squad missed the quarterfinals of the FIBA U16 Asia Cup.
The Philippines failed to advance after falling to Bahrain in the quarterfinals qualifiers, 79-66.
“Well… the outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, but i want to acknowledge the incredible sacrifices and resilience of these young boys have put in,” Tenorio wrote in his post on Thursday.
“Their dedication, hard work, teamwork and sacrifices have been inspiring since Day 1. And with that I am so PROUD of these boys!”
For Tenorio, this is just the beginning of better things for the squad.
“This loss doesn’t define us; it’s a stepping stone for greater things ahead. Let’s learn from this and continue to strive for excellence! ”
Gilas Pilipinas Men team manager Alfrancis Chua also replied to the post, saying, “Heads up. Proud of you and the team.”
In response to a now-deleted comment, Tenorio also defended his young players.
“Kung wala ka namang mabuting sasabihin tungkol sa mga bata, tumahimik ka na lang! ’Di mo alam ang sakripisyong ginawa ng mga batang ’to,” he wrote.
The Philippines wrapped up the tournament with one win (against Indonesia) and three losses (to Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, and Bahrain).
