UAAP: UP, DLSU cheer squads unite in halftime protest against corruption

In a rare moment of unity, the University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad and the De La Salle University (DLSU) Animo Squad joined forces in a call against corruption during halftime of the match between the Fighting Maroons and the Green Archers.

The two cheering squads performed together following UP’s halftime routine, chanting, “D-L-S-U, laban sa korap!” and “Ikulong na ’yan, mga kurakot!”

La Salle eventually won the tightly contested game, 72-69.

This is not the first time the UP Pep Squad has used a halftime performance to denounce corruption.

In their game against Ateneo de Manila University last October 8, the UP Pep Squad and the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion each made their own statements condemning corrupt practices.

During the Season 88 opening ceremony, popstar royalty Sarah Geronimo also spoke out against corruption in the country.

Highlighting social issues is not new in the UAAP. Back in 2017, the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion used their halftime performance to call for the upholding of human rights.
