UAAP: Erolon triple lifts Adamson to OT win, deals UST third straight loss
Matt Erolon delivered the game-winner for Adamson University in its overtime escape of University of Santo Tomas, 97-96, in the UAAP Seasom 88 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The win extended the Soaring Falcons’ streak to four after defeating the University of the East and UST in the first round, and the same two schools in the second round.
UST was leading 88-80 with around 30 seconds left but the San Marcelino crew made a 9-1 run, capped by Monty Montebon’s triple to push the game to overtime.
Ray Allen Torres’ triple opened extra period before Collins Akowe led the overtime rally for the España-based squad.
However, it was Erolon and Adamson who had the last laugh.
Torres had 20 points, including three triples, to lead Adamson, while Montebon waxed hot for 19 points, including five from beyond the arc. Cedrick Manzano, meanwhile, har 10 points.
Akowe had 19 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks to lead the Growling Tigers, while Mark Llemit had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist. Forth Padrigao and Kyle Paranada chipped in 14 points apiece, while Nic Cabañero was limited to 10 points.
Adamson now holds a 5-4 card, while UST absorbed its third straight loss after falling to Adamson in the first round and De La Salle University in their second round opener to slip to a similar win-loss record.
