PBA: Rain or Shine snaps Converge’s streak to take solo lead

Rain or Shine claimed the solo lead in the standings after defeating Converge, 90-84, in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Montalban, Rizal.

The win gave the Elasto Painters a 7-2 record and snapped the FiberXers’ three-game winning streak, dropping them to 6-3.

Rain or Shine trailed 74-75 with around eight minutes left in the fourth period, but Andrei Caracut completed a three-point play to spark a 9-0 run that pushed the Elasto Painters ahead, 83-75.

Gian Mamuyac then fueled the late surge as his dunk and triple, sandwiched around a Jhaymo Eguilos basket, extended Rain or Shine’s lead to 90-81 before they eventually secured the victory.

Santi Santillan finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and an assist, while Mamuyac and Caracut added 15 and 13 points, respectively. Mike Malonzo and Caelan Tiongson also chipped in 10 points each, with Malonzo grabbing 10 rebounds.

For Converge, Juan Gomez de Liano led the way with 20 points, while Larry Muyang and Alec Stockton contributed 18 and 11 points, respectively. Justine Baltazar was a force on the boards, hauling down 21 rebounds on top of 10 points.
