PBA: San Miguel extends streak to seven with rout of Blackwater; TNT back on winning track
San Miguel leaned on Don Trollano and CJ Perez in dismantling Blackwater, 116-92, to stretch its winning streak to seven in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup on Saturday at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
Trollano top-scored with 22 points alongside four rebounds off the bench while Perez churned out 16 markers, two boards, and one assist as the Beermen improved to 7-2 while the also-ran Bossing slipped to 1-9.
Trollano heated up early by dropping 14 points in the first half to help the Beermen erect a comfortable 51-36 lead at the break.
However, rookie James Una, who was picked 38th overall by the Bossing in the recent Rookie Draft, came alive in the third and dropped 11 of his total output as Blackwater pulled to within 10 by the end of the penultimate frame, 71-81.
The Beermen then pulled away for good in the fourth with big man Mo Tautuaa scoring three straight baskets for an 89-73 lead before Trollano hit a four-pointer to make it a 108-88 lead with 2:29 left in the game.
Aside from Trollano and Perez, big men June Mar Fajardo and Rodney Brondial posted double-double outings with the former dropping 11 points and 12 rebounds and the latter scattering 15 markers and 10 boards.
In the first game, TNT rediscovered its winning form by pulling off a 119-100 win against NLEX behind a career-high performance from veteran guard Jordan Heading.
The 29-year-old guard detonated for 32 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc while also grabbing five rebounds, four assists, and a steal to help the Tropang 5G bounce back from back-to-back losses to Rain or Shine and San Miguel.
TNT, who also got solid numbers from Calvin Oftana and Rey Nambatac, improved 6-3 while the Road Warriors absorbed their second loss in a row to go 6-4.
