PBA: San Miguel claims playoff bonus by sending Terrafirma to 9th loss in a row
San Miguel picked up where it left off to dismantle a hapless Terrafirma, 135-115, and claim the second playoff incentive in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Beermen, who have not dropped a game ever since snapping a sorry 0-2 start to their campaign, improved to 8-2 to join Rain or Shine with twice-to-beat bonuses in the quarterfinals.
CJ Perez shot 50-percent from the field to finish with a team-high 26 points to go with six rebounds, one assist, and one steal while Jericho Cruz chipped in 17 markers, four boards, and three dimes to help the Beermen extend their winning streak to eight.
San Miguel also sent the Dyip reeling to their ninth loss in a row as Terrafirma formally closed out its campaign with a 1-10 record.
Eager to end their year on a high note, Terrafirma went off early with Maverick Ahanmisi and Mark Nonoy teaming up in their first-quarter barrage that saw the Dyip take a 26-18 lead to end the frame.
But the Beermen displayed their championship poise in the second, punishing the Dyip with 34 points against the latter's 20 with Jeron Teng and Don Trollano leading the offense as they took a 52-46 halftime lead.
Perez scored 17 of his total points in the third quarter, setting the stage for a 20-point rout that put San Miguel in a strong position for a successful title defense.
Ahanmisi paced Terrafirma with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists while Paolo Hernandez chipped in with 19. Ahanmisi's younger brother Jerrick finished with 16 markers in the loss.
