Gilas Pilipinas Women reclaim SEA Games Gold
The Gilas Pilipinas Women reclaimed the gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games after defeating Thailand in the finals, 73-70, on Friday.
The Philippines opened strong, racing to a 12–2 lead before Thailand surged ahead, 26–24, early in the second quarter. By halftime, Gilas Pilipinas regained control with a 50–43 advantage and continued to pressure the hosts to take a 65–58 lead by the end of the third period.
Thailand, however, held the Philippines to just eight points in the fourth quarter, but Gilas still managed to fend off the hosts, as a Chack Cabinbin split at the line sealed the victory for the Philippines.
Afril Bernardino led Gilas with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Kacey Dela Rosa had 17 points and 16 rebounds. Sophia Dignadice added 10 points as Gilas completed a sweep of the tournament en route to the title.
This is the Philippines’ third gold medal in the past four editions of the SEA Games, winning the previous editions in 2019 and 2022.
