Luis Pablo is finally home — and a champion: ‘Feels good to win it with La Salle’

UAAP 88: Luis Pablo of the DLSU Green Archers

Luis Pablo is finally a champion.

On December 17, De La Salle University captured the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball championship, marking Pablo’s first collegiate title and his first major title since high school.

During his high school years in the NCAA, Pablo and the La Salle Green Hills Greenies came up short in the Season 98 juniors basketball finals, losing to Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Pablo later moved up to the senior ranks, joining the University of the Philippines months after, where the Fighting Maroons reached the UAAP Season 86 finals. However, they fell short of the crown against La Salle, led by the likes of Kevin Quiambao and Mike Phillips.

This time, Pablo finally lifted a trophy—and what made it even more special was winning it with the school he considers his true home.

“Sobrang thankful kay God, this is all on Him,” Pablo told GMA News Online.

“All of our hard work the whole year, all our sacrifices, really paid off.”

In a previous interview, Pablo described the experience of hearing the green-and-white crowd cheer on them as surreal—a feeling that was intensified when La Salle defeated his former team to clinch the title.

“Sobrang surreal ‘yung feeling na first season back, nag-champion agad, with La Salle pa,” he said.

“I guess I can really say it’s been my home talaga ever since, so it feels good to win it with La Salle.”
