PBA: Charles Tiu named new Phoenix head coach
Charles Tiu is bringing his coaching acumen to the professional scene after being named the new head coach of Phoenix Super LPG in the PBA.
The Fuel Masters made the announcement official on Tuesday as Tiu takes over the spot left by Willy Wilson.
Tiu will inherit a Phoenix squad that has been struggling in the past, finishing in the bottom half in the last three conferences including a 9th place outing in the Season 50 Philippine Cup.
Tiu is the current head coach of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in the NCAA. At the Blazers’ helm, he led the Blazers to five straight Final Four appearances from Season 98 to 101.
Of those, Tiu steerer the Taft crew to two finals stints in Season 98 and Season 100, both times saw them fall short, once each to Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Mapua University.
It remains unclear, though, whether Tiu will keep his position in Benilde.
