UAAP: Ateneo stays undefeated, La Salle stuns UST in HS basketball
Continuing their strong start to the season, Ateneo de Manila University took down last year’s runners-up National University Nazareth School, 86-63, Thursday at the FilOil Centre in San Juan City.
Now settling into the lead pack at 4-0, the Blue Eagles were bannered by center Jude Eriobu anew.
Eriobu took matters into his own hands against the Bullpups, scoring 21 points while notching 15 boards and five blocks.
Meanwhile, just like in their three previous victories, the team from Katipunan got scoring production from all over the court, bannered by 15 points apiece from Noah Banal and captain Jay M Leal.
Off the bench, Renzo Gatmaitan splashed in three triples to help his squad keep their seat atop of the high-school standings.
Meanwhile, NUNS have now lost two games on the trot, falling to a 2-2 win-loss record. Shaun Lucido continued his steady play to start the season, scoring a team-high 18 points while dishing out three assists.
Chad Cartel and Moussa Diakite followed up on Lucido’s scoring production with 13 and 10 points respectively, with the big man chalking up a game-high 18 rebounds as well.

To start off Boys basketball proceedings, De La Salle Santiago Zobel copped an impressive win over defending champions University of Santo Tomas, 72-67.
Adding to the early season woes of the Tiger Cubs, Junior Archers lead guard Maco Dabao led his team in scoring for the fourth straight game, producing numbers of 18 points, five rebounds, and one steal.
Complementing Dabao’s scoring were five other DLSZ players who scored nine points or more. While Ken Atienza and Yusuf Mikailu produced 11 and 10 points respectively, Kio Favis and Mark Borrero also chipped in nine markers each to give La Salle their second win of the year.
On the other hand, struggles continued for titleholders UST as they suffered their third loss. Guard Joaqui Ludovice came up with his second 20+ point game of the season, scoring a game-high 25 points.

Far Eastern University-Diliman marched on to second place in the standings, dismantling the University of the Philippines-Integrated School, 93-75.
Improving to a 3-1 win-loss card this season, the Baby Tamaraws did their damage by committee, with 14 players scoring in today’s game.
Leading the attack were Marc Burgos and Prince Carino, separately scoring 16 and 13 points each.
Meanwhile, Pat Sohm also entered double digits with 10 points.
For UPIS, it was Bruce Tubongbanua heading their valiant efforts again, mustering up 26 points, grabbing six rebounds, and two assists. Also coming up with 20+ points was Jhustin Hallare, scoring 22 points, with 12 of those coming from three-point makes.

To cap off the day, Adamson University came up with a couple of good defensive stops and a bucket down the stretch to edge out University of the East, 68-67.
Keefe Iledan came up with the last and most important bucket of the game, sinking in a jumper to give the Baby Falcons the lead with 10 seconds left.
With the job not being finished just yet, Bill Garcia showed up on the other end of the court, swatting away Sizco Roquid’s game-winning attempt from midrange.
Iledan finished the bout with 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Meanwhile, Garcia battled down in the interior, blocking five shots to go along with 12 points and eight boards.
Fellow starters Jarl Artango, Mac Jenodia, and Chrys Gomez also impressed in the win over UE, combining for 35 points.
For the Junior Red Warriors, it was Ethan Aguas off the bench who spearheaded their efforts, chalking up 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Jamal Diaz and Jolo Pascual just trailed in the scoring department with 12 and 10 markers to their name.

Over in the Girls division, National University-Nazareth School overwhelmed De La Salle Zobel, 95-45, to stay undefeated at 2-0.
En route to their 50-point win, Rosano copped herself a near quadruple-double, scoring 18 points, crashing the board with 10 rebounds, assisting 11 made baskets, and getting nine steals.
Aubrey Lapasaran also marked her presence in the win over DLSZ, producing 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and five steals in just over 24 minutes of play off the bench.
Meanwhile, Ima Navarro and Ching Gales led the Junior Lady Archers with seven points respectively, with the latter also gobbling up seven rebounds.
