PBA: Rain or Shine's Jaylen Johnson, TNT's Glenn Khobuntin speak out after on-court altercation

Rain or Shine import Jaylen Johnson and TNT’s Glenn Khobuntin addressed their heated on-court altercation during their PBA Commissioner’s Cup clash on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Elasto Painters won, 112-109.

The incident occurred at the 6:20 mark of the fourth quarter, when both players were battling for position. Khobuntin and Johnson engaged in a brief scuffle, nearly sparking a free-for-all, before officials intervened and issued flagrant fouls that led to their ejection.

Khobuntin pointed to heightened emotions in a tightly contested game as the cause of the incident.

“Mataas masyado ‘yung emosyon eh, siyempre dikit ‘yung game. Nagkagulo. ‘Yun lang naman,” he said.

“Nagkapisikalan kasi tapos siyempre medyo may nag-swing-swing, wala na akong nagawa, bumawi lang nang konti, [pero] medyo masama.”

Despite the incident, Khobuntin acknowledged accountability and said he is ready to move forward.

“Nangyari na ang nangyari, move on na lang. Kung anong mangyari, Tanggapin na lang ang consequences, move on.”

Johnson, for his part, claimed he was struck first but still issued an apology following the altercation.

“I really don’t know what happened. I tried to get position, and then out of nowhere he hit me,” Johnson said.

“Whatever happens, I want to apologize to the PBA because that’s not that character I want to show. Sorry to me, sorry to the team, sorry to him, too,” he added.

Before their ejection, Khobuntin tallied five points, while Johnson posted an all-around performance of 33 points, including six triples and a four-pointer, along with nine rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block.
