PBA: New import Clint Chapman powers Magnolia past Macau, keeps Black Knights winless
New import Clint Chapman delivered a dominant performance to lead Magnolia past Macau, 121-109, and secure its first win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The victory also spoiled the debut of head coach Marcus Elliot, as the Black Knights remained winless in the conference.
Magnolia held a narrow 52-51 advantage at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter, outscoring Macau 32–17 to build a commanding 84-68 lead heading into the final period.
Chapman starred in his debut with 39 points and 15 rebounds after replacing Nuni Omot. Zav Lucero also impressed, stuffing the stat sheet with 23 points, nine rebounds, five blocks, four steals, and three assists to lead the locals.
The win came after Magnolia dropped its first three games of the conference.
Chon Pong Lao paced Macau with 24 points, while Tony Mitchell added 22 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks, an assist, and a steal. Damian Chongqui contributed 20 points, 10 assists, and four rebounds, but Macau fell to 0-4.
