Alex Eala drops to No. 45 in WTA rankings after Miami Open
Filipina star Alex Eala dropped significantly in the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, falling to No. 45 just a week after her early exit at the Miami Open.
The 20-year-old Eala dropped 16 spots—the biggest fall for any player in the latest WTA rankings—from her career-high No. 29 she attained just two weeks ago.
The development came after her Round of 16 finish in the Miami Open, where she absorbed a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Karolina Muchova to bow out of contention. Eala gained only 120 points this time, shedding 270 from the 390 points she secured with last year’s semifinal finish.
Eala’s ranking points also fell from 1,525 to 1,255.

The Pinay ace will now take a much-needed break before returning to action on the clay courts.
She will see action in the Upper Austria Ladies Linz Open kicking off from April 6 to 12. Eala is also listed in the Women's Stuttgart Open in Germany from April 13 to 19 and in the Madrid Open scheduled from April 21 to May 3.
